How to Apply for Financial Aid
Please submit Financial Aid forms by June 15, 2026 (Priority deadline)
Student Type and Loan Eligibility
- U.S. citizens/permanent residents may apply for GW Law need-based grants and federal loans.
- Transfer students and students receiving GW employee tuition benefits are ineligible to receive law need-based grants, but may apply for federal loans.
- International students are ineligible for need-based grants and federal loans, but may apply for private education loans.
Note: Joint JD/other GW graduate school degree students may apply for federal loans and GW Law need-based grants, but may not receive a grant for any semester in which they are enrolled exclusively in their other graduate program’s courses.
Steps for Federal Loans and GW Law Need-Based Grants
1. FAFSA (Required to apply for Federal Loans and GW Law Need-Based Grants)
Complete the 2026-2027 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Enter the GW Law school code E00196 in order for GW Law to receive your FAFSA data.
The US Department of Education receives and processes your FAFSA application data and sends you a Student Aid Report (SAR), providing you and GW Law with an analysis of your eligibility for Federal Student Loans. The SAR alone does not determine your need for a GW Law need-based grant.
Complete the FAFSA Application
2. GW Law Financial Aid Request Form (Required to apply for Federal Loans and GW Law Need-Based Grants)
**Submit this form ONLY if you have been admitted to GW Law.
Note: The 2026-2027 GW Law Financial Aid Request Form will be posted here in mid-March 2026.
3. College Scholarship Service (CSS) Profile Form (Required to apply for GW Law Need-Based Grants)
Complete the 2026-2027 CSS Profile form. You must provide parent data (and spouse’s data if you are married) on the CSS Profile. Please look for the form under “The George Washington Law School” school code 5587.
The Financial Aid Office does not award merit scholarships; merit scholarships are awarded by the Admissions Office Scholarship Committee.
Priority Deadline: Please complete these three requirements by June 15, 2026.
